Custom Packaging Solutions

The Bunzl Agriculture Group considers our product design and development process to be one of our core competencies.  The Bunzl Agriculture Group brings decades of experience to the produce industry and customer packaging design with extensive in-house product development capabilities. Failure to focus on innovation runs the risk of developing products that lack compelling differentiation, miss market requirements, are priced out of range of the market, or otherwise fail to satisfy our customers.

Customers, Suppliers, and other stakeholders play a direct role in the product design and development process. To be a truly effective, the Bunzl Agriculture Group engages a variety of cross functional participants from marketing, sales, engineering, operations, cooling and manufacturing, to gain a deeper understanding of all product requirements.   This collective knowledge and expertise is essential to deliver a successful package design.

Our comprehensive design process includes:

Stakeholder Requirements and Product Specifications Gathering – Product needsare expressed either from marketing, sales, retailers growers or other interested parties in the supply chain. Our first step is to gather input from all stakeholders, including growers, retailers, box suppliers, and others. From this input we assemble a set of specifications.

2D and 3D Modeling Development and Review – We engage our graphic artists and CAD designers to bring those specifications into an initial set of design drawings, sketches or designs based on the requirements gathered.   Modifications are made based on initial feedback and discussion.

Prototyping, Samples and Testing –With customer approval on computer designs, we proceed to samples or prototyping.    Samples are developed in small batches to allow for a variety of testing and approvals.   Testing may include pack tests, tray fit, shelf life testing, retail approval, and cooling tests to insure the package design meets specification requirements.    Additional design changes and further sampling may occur at this stage of the development process.

Production Tooling Development – Once all parties are satisfied that the final prototype as tested will meet their specified needs, and then plating and tooling production begins.

Full Scale Production – When the completed tooling is received in house, production then begins.  Full scale production occurs once initial production plates and tools are tested and initial production samples are approved.
